The 2019 UK-Chengdu Cooperation Week – Nottingham-Chengdu Economic and Trade Promotion and Project Negotiation Meeting Held Successfully

On October 28 local time, the “2019 UK-Chengdu Cooperation Week” Nottingham-Chengdu Economic and Trade Promotion and Project Negotiation Meeting was jointly held by Chengdu Municipal People’s Government and Nottingham City Council in Nottingham City Hall.

Co-witness: Signing of Memorandum of Understanding on Economic and Trade Cooperation between Chengdu and Nottingham

Under the witness of over 120 representatives and in the warm applause of all participators, Chengdu Municipal Bureau of Commerce and Business Development and International Strategy Department, Nottingham City Council signed the Memorandum of Understanding on Economic and Trade Cooperation between Chengdu and Nottingham, which will further promote bilateral cooperation and intergovernmental exchanges between the two cities through establishing and improving a regular communication mechanism, carrying out significant international exchange activities, and building an international exchange and cooperation platform to strengthen economic and trade exchanges in high-end commerce, logistics, aviation, tourism, cultural creativity and other fields.

The delegation sent an invitation to all sectors of the local community. Chengdu, with rapid development, looks forward to all-round cooperation with the UK and is willing to share the future opportunities with British enterprises. It is hoped that the British enterprises will increase their investment in Chengdu, and based on this, further explore the market in western China, eventually facilitate the win-win development of advantageous industries and enterprises in both sides. Furthermore, people to people and cultural exchanges between the two sides will be promoted by constantly enhanced communication and exchanges of social organizations and academic institutions.

Cross Ocean Cooperation: Extending to a Wider Range

At the opening ceremony of the cooperation week, representative enterprises of the two sides signed a series of cooperation agreements with a total amount of CNY 200 million. Among them, China Fintech and Fusion Pay established a partnership on market development and technical cooperation in financial science and technology, driving UK-Chengdu financial science and technology development to enter a new stage. Additionally, Chengdu Lan-bridge Translation Co., Ltd. and Hino Travel initiated a cross-border cooperation between tourism and translation to jointly promote diversified language services at home and abroad.

This time, the delegation organized and selected more than 20 Chengdu enterprises in hi-tech, financial services, business services and other industries, such as Dazhe Technology, Benniu Technology, Beyondsoft, China Fintech and Zhichuangyi, to participate in this visit, aiming to encourage and guide our SMEs to go out and actively carry out general trade and service trade with all countries and regions along the “Belt and Road”, and help them expand channels, exchange information and explore markets.

 

High-end Dialogue: Boosting UK-Chengdu Economic and Trade Development

After the promotion, a meeting was also held between Chengdu Economic and Trade Delegation and Nicki Jenkins, head of Economic Development Department, Nottingham City Council, Robert Dixon, head of Business Development and International Strategy Department, Nottingham City Council, and Jason Yu, assistant to the mayor of Nottingham, to review the economic and trade exchanges between Chengdu and Nottingham and the achievements of economic and trade exchanges between Chengdu and the UK, and discuss the new journey in future. The two sides hoped that this visit would become a new starting point for cooperation, and a normalized communication mechanism would be build up along with more pragmatic cooperation in economic and trade exchanges, culture, tourism, sports, education, biomedicine and clean energy.

At the end of this visit, a wine party was held, offering an in-depth face-to-face conversation and ideas exchanges between enterprise representatives from all over the UK and Chengdu, where a number of industrial cooperation visions in agricultural product trade, science and technology, cultural creativity, financial services and other fields were further discussed.

Follow-ups: More Exciting Activities

On October 29 local time, Chengdu Economic and Trade Cooperation Delegation was invited to participate in Leicester Business Festival (LBF), the largest business activity in Leicester County and the only two-week business festival in the UK. On the spot, the delegation and relevant Leicestershire enterprises jointly held “one-to-one” negotiation meetings in science and technology, cultural creativity, financial services, business services, modern commerce and engineering construction, hoping to take this opportunity to establish contact channels and jointly create new opportunities in European market.
